There are a lot of holiday traditions that Mark & I let go. But we have started one very special tradition that we all enjoy. We’re heading to bed early this evening with the plan of getting up in the middle of the night for our sacred Christmas trail walk w/ the pack. The dog’s eyes will pop open like glossy Christmas ornaments, as we ready ourselves for the adventure. It’s the best gift we could possibly give them. And though it’s admittedly hard to uproot myself from my snuggly covers, it’s a treasured tradition for us monkeys too…
Good night… And Peaceful Christmas
~~~
We popped out of bed last night at about 1:00 this morning, and slipped everyone into their cold-weather gear. The temperature had plummeted to negative 7, so there were snow booties for all the terriers. And, hand & toe warmers for this monkey…
We made our way out the door where we were greeted by the clear night sky where the stars were brightly shining. …We all tromped down the road and around the bend towards the outback trail. Our pack was quiet and respectful of the sleeping neighborhood, except Stirling who was coming out of his own skin with enthusiasm…
As we passed from the civilized world on into our world of Christmas fantasy, we found ourselves topped by a modest show of the Northern Lights! It was not an intensive presence, as they sometimes can be. But, perfectly welcomed to the occasion…
By 3:00AM we were peacefully back to visions of sugar plums and “voles with peanut butter”…
